IKIGAI DAI is a general incorporated association. In Japanese, 一般社団法人 (Ippan Shadan Houjin). It started as a research project for teaching languages to older adults at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies. It has been supported by several Presidents of the University and sponsored by the Education Committee of the city of Kobe for eight years (see video). During the coronavirus pandemic, we have strived to continue helping the senior community, who wanted to keep mentally and socially active through second language learning. Our senior students are a highly educated force and are an asset for Japanese society. They can transmit the Japanese know-how to the Spanish-speaking and English-speaking worlds and they can host foreign visitors in several languages. We have founded IKIGAI DAI as a non-profit general incorporated association because we want to continue guiding our students towards achieving their objective of speaking languages fluently, especially in a post-pandemic world. We believe that teaching languages to older adults have the potential to change society. Thus, IKIGAI DAI is NOT an ordinary language school but a social movement.
